Why We Love This Air Fryer Recipe

Warm, tender biscuits are a classic breakfast staple that makes everyone happy… Even the morning grumps! Bring a plate to the table with an assortment of jams and spreads, and watch them all practically disappear.

Of course, you can bake biscuits in the oven, but it’s so much more fun to cook them in small batches in the air fryer! Air fryer biscuits are quick to make, extra golden and crispy on the outside, and so soft and delicious on the inside.

Here we include an easy recipe so you can make your biscuits from scratch – plus we share steps to bake canned biscuits in the air fryer as well!

  • All-purpose flour – or gluten-free flour mix
  • Granulated sugar – white sugar (or substitute coconut sugar)
  • Baking powder – to get nice soft biscuits
  • Sea salt – a pinch for flavor
  • Baking soda – for a puffy rise
  • Butter – cold, cut into cubes
  • Buttermilk – store-bought or homemade buttermilk

Or if you prefer, use your favorite type of canned biscuits. Any brand will do!

How to Make and Air Fry Homemade Biscuits

Prepare the Biscuit Dough

  1. Sift the flour, then scoop and level. Place the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a food processor. Pulse to mix.
  2. Next, add the cold butter cubes. Pulse again until the fat is mixed into the flour creating a pebble-like texture. Continue pulsing as you add in the cold buttermilk.
  3. Once the dough is thoroughly mixed, stop pulsing. The dough should look wet, but even.
  4. Dump the dough out onto a floured work surface. Press it flat with your hands until it is smooth, in an even 2-inch thick disk. Use a small drinking glass, or 2-inch cutter, to cut out 9 biscuits. If needed, cut out 7, then gather the dough and cut out the last couple of biscuits. Chill the biscuits until ready to use.

Pro Tip: The biscuit dough can be made several days ahead of baking.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make gluten-free biscuits?

Substitute all-purpose flour with your favorite GF-friendly baking alternative.

Can this recipe be doubled?

Yes, you can easily double or triple the recipe. However, air fry the biscuits in small batches so that they get perfectly crisp and golden.

How can I get my biscuits to rise higher?

The key to a high rise is to use cold cubed butter and keep the biscuit dough chilled. Also, take the time to preheat the air fryer for a full 3 to 5 minutes. A properly hot “oven” makes super fluffy biscuits!

How long do biscuits last?

Homemade or canned biscuits cooked in the air fryer will keep well for up to 5 days at room temperature. Store in an airtight container, and keep in a cool dry spot.

They also freeze very well! Wrap each biscuit individually in plastic wrap, and store them together in a plastic zipper bag. Keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight, or on the countertop for an hour or so. Reheat in the air fryer or oven at 350°F for 3-5 minutes.
